OUR CARBON PAW PRINT!
Using
exclusively compostable litters- PINE/CEDAR
Clay litters are produced by strip mining. Use of pine in
particular helps to speed the harvest of
pine beetle infested monocultures and speeds the replanting of diverse
forests in British Columbia.
USING
RECYCLED MATERIALS
WHENEVER
POSSIBLE
Including
gently
used carpet shelving and building materials to create scratching
posts and climbers
WE
BELIEVE THAT HEALTHY CATS =
HEALTHY COMMUNITIES
All
of our kittens are altered
before they are placed as household pets
We
also ensure they have each
seen a vet, have
received vaccinations
and are in good
health before
shipping or placement
Early Spay And
Neuter Is Associated With :
- Faster
Recovery,
More
Affectionate
Adult Disposition, and
Responsible Breeding Practice.
GIVING YOUR KITTEN
THE BEST START
POSSIBLE
We
allow our momma
cats to ween
naturally - usually between 12 - 16 weeks. This developmental
period is very important for
kittens both in tems of thier physical and social growth.
BEWARE young kittens seperated from thier mother
before 12
weeks,
sometimes as young as 6 weeks old. Just as young children who
are
breast fed longer are less prone to ear infections and other
child hood illnesses, kittens require thier mother untill the age of 12
weeks at minimum. We have seen kittens as old as 16 weeks
still occasionally nursing, and believe that it is most
benificial for both kitten and mother to facilitate this process
naturally.
Kittens at 2Tone are raised underfoot and are permited to
play
and socialize. 2Tone cats and kittens are never caged.
This
is a
time when kittens learn that claws can hurt, scratching posts are fun
and don't get you into trouble! Momma cat will encourage
kittens to transition to kitten food when they are ready to stop
nursing and will teach about using the litter box - so that
when
kitten is 16 weeks old, they are ready to go to thier new homes.
This is also a time when we play an important role,
handeling
and socializing your kitten for maximum cuddely - ness.
This starts from the day they are born untill you take over
the
very
important responsibility to snuggle this kitten every day for
the
rest of thier life.
HEALTHY DIET FOR A
HEALTHY KITTEN
We
feed a variety
of commercial cat
and kitten foods. We try to source high quality and
affordable
foods from major distributors
that are likley to be available in your area. We read lables
to
compare between major brands and try to source foods which are:
meaning
available from major
distributors
such as
Walmart, Super
Store, and Canadian Tire, hoping that
some of
these
brands will
also be available
in the U. S. and the U.K.
- Affordable, to the
average North
American family.
Including
Brands such as :
Holistic Pro Series - Kitten and President's Choice -
Nutrition First Cat
and Kitten
Food.
- Wholesome and
Nutritious - Yes! You can
buy wholesome and
nutitious pet food that is also affordable.
Read lables looking for
wholesome and high protien ingredients. Cats are carnivores -
they will thrive on a diet of
almost entirely meat, though they also
have other
vitemin and nutitional needs. Look for lables that have
Chicken,
Chicken Meal or some other meat in the first two
ingredients. Avoid pet foods that list corn as a primary
ingredient.
Though there
are some
excellent and
sometimes
organic pet foods available on the market, if they are unaffordable to
the average
family, if
they are hard
to source or
require
special ordering,
people are less
likly to continue
feeding kitten that food, and because
cats can be very pattern orientated, (They
get used to things very quickly.)
changes in diet can be upsetting to them. Some cats will
refuse unfamiliar food for days or weeks if they have become used
to one particular food. We feed a variety of different kitten
food
brands so that kitten is more willing to accept new foods, and
will transition easier to your home.
Sometimes
mixing the familiar brand
with the new food will encourage kitten to eat. during transition to a
new home.

(Above Fresh Clean Pine Litter)
Why we never use clumping clay
cat litter:
CLUMPING CLAY CAT
LITTERS CAN BE DANGEROUS CAUSING
DIGESTIVE
BLOCKAGE
CLUMPING
INTO FUR
AND CONTRIBUTING TO RESPIRATORY DISTRESS
- Cats inhale dust from clay litter, or
ingest it while cleaning
their feet. Kittens, being curious creatures, sometimes eat litter.
- The powerful clumping abilities of sodium betonite cause
the
ingested clay dust and particles which, when combined with natural and
ingested liquid form a solid mass. When liquid is added, bentonite
swells to approximately 15 times its original volume
- Inhaled particles could cause similar problems in the
moist
climate of the lungs. The dust in clay is silica
dust, which
is not particularly friendly to either human or feline lungs.
- The "clumping activity" in the intestines could draw fluid
out of
the body, causing dehydration, and possibly consequential urinary tract
problems.
- The clumping substance coats the digestive
tract, attracting the collection of old fecal material, increasing
toxicity, bacteria growth and prohibiting proper assimilation of
digested food. This can lead to stress on the immune system, leaving
the animal susceptible to viral, bacterial, parasitic and yeast
infections.
- The problems can also extend to dogs, who sometimes are
inexplicably drawn to "litter box snacks."
